21st Century Punishments

I think that many parents do not punish their children enough. In school we hear rumors of kids who were caught growing or smoking marijuana that were grounded for a week or two and that was the end of their sentence. What does that teach a kid? I think that the child will go and do the same thing again because they know that they will not be punished very severly. If I had to punish my child I think that I would do many of the examples that were given to us. I believe that I would take away their cellular device because I know that many kids cannot live without their phones. I would also ground them from facebook because I know how much time I spend on it. I also think that a kid should be grounded from driving depending on how serious the offense was. Even if it was something small, I think that the keys should be taken from them for the weekend or something. I have been punished and my keys were taken from me and that affected me the most of all. I have been grounded, facebook taken, phone taken, Ipod taken, and keys taken and I know that I will try my hardest to behave better because I know that I do not want that to ever happen to me again because I was miserable and I felt like i had nothing to do all the time. I feel like my parents were very effective in how they punished me and I feel like it was a fair and just punishment. If I were to have kids, I think that I would do about the same because of the effect that it had on me. Technology is so important to us in today's world and most kids could not live without it, or so they say. Punishment is neccesary for kids to learn from their mistakes.
