Journal 1 Native American Creation Story: How the Panda got his Bamboo
Young Panda was walking down the trail. All of a sudden Slithery Snake pulled his tail. Panda turned to see who had pulled his tail in a fury and he was going to hit Slithery Snake for pulling his tail. Slithery Snake apologized right away for what he had done and he said that it was an accident. Young Panda did not believe that the snake did not do it on purpose and he was still mad. Then Papa Panda came out of the woods and said "Young Panda, do not do anything that you will regret and feel sorry for. Do what you know is right." Young Panda then thought about what Papa Panda had said and he turned to Slithery Snake and said "I forgive you for pulling my tail, but can you please try to not do it again?" Slithery Snake is the Jungle's bully and he said "I can not promise you that because I have a reputation to keep." Papa Panda took his son for a walk and he told him that he was proud of his son. He said that Young Panda had handled the situation correctly and he rewarded his son with BAMBOO!!! Young Panda got his bamboo for doing what was right. Young Panda avoided a confrontation with a mean animal by not overreacting and he forgave Slithery Snake for hurting his feelings. Young Panda is still immature though because if Papa Panda had not shown up to make him stop and think about what he was doing then Young Panda may have done something unkind and hurtful towards Slithery Snake and he would not be any better than Slithery Snake. After the incident Slithery Snake went on his way and one day he pulled Young Panda's tail again. Young Panda did not need Papa Panda to tell him to stop and think and he was able to handle the situation rationally and he got more BAMBOO!!! Young Panda got full and slept the rest of the day.
