Importance of the Characters
I think that these three books are the best that I have had to read for my summer work. I fell in love with the characters and their personalities. Each of them was different in many ways. Holden is an immature rich kid who has a dirty mouth and I loved to read what he was saying because he was always saying something bad about someone that he would never have said to their face. Actually Holden may have not been afraid to tell them what he thought of you to your face. Tom is an ex-convict who cares for his family deeply. He protects them and tries to provide for them and he takes friendship very seriously. Tom watched one of his friends get murdered and he avenged him right away without even think twice about it. He loves his mother and father more than anything in the world and he is not sorry that he had to go to jail. He went to jail for something that he believed in. I find Tom a very respectable man because he does what his heart tells him to, not what someone else says to do. I loved Santiago because he is that little old man that everyone thinks is cute but he is able to bring in a thousand pound marlin all by himself. He is a remarkable man in the fact that he fishes alone. I also feel bad for him because he loses his best friend and he is made fun of because the other villagers think that he is a bad fisherman. Santiago catches the biggest marlin ever caught in the town though and I think that they will respect him for a long time now. These characters were so easy to love because of each minor detail that made them unique and I can not wait to read the books again when I am older, to fall in love with them again.
